Frequently Asked Questions
Are your products suitable for vegetarians? Our products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Are your colours and fragrances “natural”? Although we use a high proportion of essential oils and natural butters in most of our soaps, it’s a concern of ours about the possible environmental impact of some others, and therefore we use a number of high quality synthetic fragrance oils instead of oils that can have a greater impact on the planet. The colours are also synthetic, and are all EU approved as safe for cosmetic use.
Have any of your ingredients been tested on animals? Our suppliers, Just a Soap (who also supply our Safety Assessment Certificates) can assure us (and you) that nothing is tested on animals. We don’t test any of our end products on animals either, although we do go in for human testing in a big way, namely because they can make the choice.
Are your products suitable for sensitive skin? Tricky one - I would say they are suitable for “normal use”. Everybody’s skin is very different, and reacts to colour and fragrance individually. If your skin is particularly sensitive to fragrance, you might want to stick to the lavender range, as lavender tends not to be such a common irritant for very sensitive skin. You might also want to avoid anything with a very stimulating essential oil, such as peppermint, or cinnamon. As with anything new, exercise caution.
Essential Oils - is there anything I should know? THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT Essential oils can have many stimulating and relaxing properties, however, you should exercise caution in their use if you are in the early stages of pregnancy, or have a condition such as epilepsy. If in doubt, PLEASE consult your medical practitioner.
What are your postage costs? The short answer is that they are going to continue to be variable. Too many orders sent via normal Royal Mail are stolen (I refuse to say “go missing in the post” - prove they weren’t pilfered in your sorting offices if you can...), and it’s upsetting for my customers, and financially crippling for me. EVERY order will require a signature - we will try to absorb costs as much as possible for lighter/cheaper orders. If your order is around the 1 kilo mark (i.e. 8 bars or thereabouts with packaging) it’s an automatic £5.35 P&P. If you’re reasonably local and would like to collect, I’m happy to arrange.
If your order is particularly large, please email it through to us, as one or two of the courier options we are looking into may be cheaper.
Trade orders, Wedding orders, Scottish Highlands and Isle of Man orders will ALWAYS be sent by courier - it’s cheaper and quicker.
Oooh! Overseas! I’m in the USA/Australia/Canada/Europe - can I order from you? I’m afraid my products are only covered by current EU legislation, so my Safety Certificate and Insurance would be invalidated if I shipped to you. Sorry. There are some wonderfully inspiring and creative soapmakers across the pond that I’m in awe of. A quick Google will find many of them. I’m sorry, but at the present time, I cannot ship to Europe either. This WILL change shortly. It’s a postage problem, not an insurance problem.
Will you accept payments in Euros? Yes, Paypal will automatically do the conversion. When we finally come to our senses in the UK and at the very least accept the Euro as dual currency, I will list prices in Euros as well!
I’m a fellow crafter - can I swap links with you? I’ll happily swap links (unless you’re a soap maker, in which case best of luck, but a carder, scrapbooker, or knitter might be a better bet). However, I reserve the right to refuse to link to you if I believe your products to be unethical in some way. Incidentally, if you’re a crafter, and sick of the idea of craft fairs being little old ladies crocheting toilet roll holders in a dingy corner of a church hall, have you found your way to CRAFTERMATH?
I bought this same soap from you six months ago, and now it’s a different shape and colour to before! All our products are hand made in very small batches. Although I work to my own regular measurements and recipes, colours variations will occur. Also, if a mould warps during moulding, I’m more likely to use one of a similar soap weight than keep you waiting!
I shopped with you early in 2005 - why have you pared your range back so much? Simply because I’ve learned through experience and a year on, I’m finding my own style and the image range I want to present. I’ve always wanted to present fragrance blends rather than single scent products, simply to offer my customers something out of the ordinary. I now feel I’m in a position to do that. We’re extremely happy with our new, grown up range of (largely) unisex fragrances. There’s nothing that we think is dull and boring, but at the same time nothing to make your maiden aunt flinch. If something you loved is gone, please email me, as I may still have odds and ends of old stock left.
Can you make up something special for me? I want a gift combination different to anything on the site. Drop me a line and I’ll happily quote for a gift set other than those listed.
I’m a business customer with a shop/restaurant/B&B. What can you offer me? I can offer an exclusive range of handmade guest-sized soaps for your business (or if you’re a shop wishing to stock my items as gifts, I can offer you items exclusive to your business!). Please email me with BUSINESS CUSTOMER in the subject line. Minimum orders apply.
I’m getting married - I’d love heart shaped soaps or bath bombs as wedding favours Your venue will smell absolutely divine! The products will keep fresh for months, so you can order well ahead with confidence. Please email me with WEDDING CUSTOMER in the subject line. Minimum orders apply.
